Twenty-Five 3-Year-Olds Entered in Prairie Meadows Gold Derby Trials

ALTOONA, IA–JUNE 18, 2024–Jess A Rednec Cowboy and Cardiac Cowboy lead a group of 25 sophomores entered in Sunday's 350-yard Prairie Meadows Gold Derby trials at Prairie Meadows Racetrack.

A homebred son of Flying Cowboy 123 trained by Jason Olmstead for owner Brenda Reiswig, Jess A Rednec Cowboy will be shortening in distance off of his seventh-place finish, 2 3/4 lengths behind winner SC Time To Run, in the June 1, 400-yard Heritage Place Derby (G2) at Remington Park. The sorrel gelding has banked $37,134 from four outs at Prairie Meadows, and he scored a one-length victory in last year's 350-yard, $22,000 Valley Junction Juvenile Stakes at the track.

Jess A Rednec Cowboy drew post three and will be ridden by Ramiro H. Garcia in the second of three trials.

Jason Olmstead trains Cardiac Cowboy for owner Jo Rice. A homebred Flying Cowboy 123 gelding, Cardiac Cowboy is coming off of a Remington Park spring campaign during which he ran fifth in the Heritage Place and Remington Park (RG1) derbies. All told, he's earned $231,796 from a dozen starts, and his five wins include last year's 350-yard, $204,000 Valley Junction Futurity (G3) at Prairie Meadows.

Cardiac Cowboy drew post two and will be ridden by Ramiro Garcia in the first heat.

The ten fastest qualifiers will meet in the $100,000-est. final on July 7.
