Royal Vista Ranch is proud to welcome B Cause Im A Hero SI 105 to our stallion roster for 2027. The 2018 sorrel stallion is a Grade 1-placed runner and a FUEGO Stallion Incentive Azul sire. His foals are already proving that his speed passes down: in 2025 he finished as the nation's No. 1 leading sire by average earnings per starter. He is owned by Nancy Wells and Larry "Kevin" Marcum of Paoli, Oklahoma. For Nancy, it's a full-circle moment: her stallion will stand at the very ranch her father built.

Where It Started

In 1998, Jerry and Betty Wells bought open ground in Wayne, Oklahoma, a mile off I-35, and set out to build a premier training and breeding facility. That ground is Royal Vista Ranch today.

In the Quarter Horse world, Jerry Wells needs no introduction. Born in Sulphur, Oklahoma, in 1940, he went on to win 61 AQHA world championships. He showed Kid Meyers to AQHA's first Supreme Champion title in 1967 and became one of the most influential horsemen of his generation. Fellow horseman Frank Merrill called him "an industry changer, an industry shaper." Jerry was inducted into the Oklahoma Quarter Horse Hall of Fame in 2007 and the American Quarter Horse Hall of Fame in 2022.

Betty was an elite exhibitor in her own right. Their daughter Nancy grew up around great horses and earned 11 Youth World Championships.

The Wells family sold the ranch in 2005 to Vaughn and Dr. Jill Cook and Laura Wipf, who named it Royal Vista Ranch and grew it into one of the region's leading equine reproduction facilities. Cole and Marijo Morehead have carried it forward since 2022. Jerry passed away in 2008, but the place he and Betty started is still doing exactly what they built it to do: raising good horses.

The Racehorse

Nancy and Kevin found B Cause Im A Hero at the 2019 Heritage Place Yearling Sale. They bought the colt for $65,000, drawn by his conformation and his pedigree. Longtime friend and horseman Jack Brooks gave his blessing, and the colt went to trainer Clint Crawford.

He started his career at Remington Park, where he won his trial to the Remington Park Futurity and ran as a finalist in the $100,000 Remington Park Juvenile. He then qualified for the $1 million Rainbow Futurity (G1) at Ruidoso Downs. At three, he earned his way into the Remington Park Oklahoma-Bred Derby and the Ruidoso Invitational Stakes. In his final start, he ran second to world champion Empressum, the nation's No. 1 money-earning three-year-old, in the $393,416 Texas Classic Derby (G1).

He retired with nine wins or placings from 14 starts and $197,555 in earnings.

Beyond his substantial race record, B Cause Im A Hero is exceptionally pretty and conformationally correct. After his racing career, he proved it at the AQHA World Championship Show, placing third for the bronze in Performance Halter Stallions two years in a row with AQHA Professional Horseman Luke Castle. For breeders, he offers the rare combination of both speed and correctness.

The Pedigree

B Cause Im A Hero is by Valiant Hero, a multiple champion sire whose foals have earned more than $32.5 million, with 146 black-type horses.

His dam, Jess B Mighty SI 98, was a multiple stakes winner. She is a full sister to Grade 1 winner Mighty Invictus SI 102 and a half-sister to stakes winner Mighty B Valiant SI 99 ($543,968). The family runs deep. B Cause Im A Hero is a full brother to Grade 3 winner B Leaving SI 99 ($262,736) and Grade 2-placed Jess Let It B SI 104 ($186,279), and a half-brother to stakes winner and track-record setter Jess B One SI 103 ($258,911).

Fast, and Passing It On

Plenty of fast horses never pass that speed on. B Cause Im A Hero does. He entered stud in 2022, and his foals are already winning and placing in graded stakes:

  • MW BCause Im First SI 104 ($317,738): second in the New Mexico State Fair Quarter Horse Futurity (G2), third in the Mountain Top New Mexico-Bred Derby (G3), and NMHBA champion two-year-old filly.

  • MW BCause Im Alive SI 82 ($106,224): winner of the Speedhorse Graham Paint and Appaloosa Futurity (G1).

  • MW Heart Of A Hero SI 87 ($70,287): a multiple winner.

  • MW Wishyouhadahero SI 89 ($64,019): a winner against open company and a finalist in the $495,569 La Fiesta Futurity (G3).

From limited starters, those results made him the nation's No. 1 leading sire by average earnings per starter in 2025.

Incentive Eligibility

B Cause Im A Hero holds one of just 50 spots in the exclusive FUEGO Stallion Incentive. His foals are also eligible for Oklahoma Bred, Black Gold, the Ruidoso Triple Crown, Los Alamitos Two Million, Golden State Million, Ed Burke Million, TQHA, Speedhorse, Future Fortunes, Select Stallion Stakes, Texas Sires Cup, Colorado Classic and VGBRA programs.

Why We're Excited

B Cause Im A Hero is a young sire on the rise, and we’re excited to be part of what comes next. He was fast on the track, his foals are fast on the track, and he has the looks and correctness to match, backed by a proven female family.

Every stallion we stand matters to us, but this one feels personal. The Wells family built Royal Vista Ranch, and now Nancy and Kevin's stud stands here. We're honored they chose Royal Vista Ranch, and we can't wait to see what he does here in 2027.
